Living on the Queen Charlotte Islands means that medical help isn’t exactly nearby, and considering there is no cellphone service, knowing CPR can mean the difference between life and death. So, in 2006, April Dutheil­—now a pre-med student—applied for and received a $2,000 grant to organize two free CPR courses to educate 24 people across the islands.
