Yogurt is a surefire way to satisfy those late afternoon hunger pangs. It is also an excellent source of calcium and phosphorus, helps to maintain weight, adds protein to your diet, and ensures a healthy bacterial balance in the body. But with so many choices (not to mention flavours), which one is best? Shauna Lindzon, a consulting dietitian in Toronto, has taken some of the guesswork out of choosing a healthy yogurt. The Dore family (mom April, Paul, 12, Nicole, 9, Matthew, 7, and Carina, 5) shared their thoughts on the taste of these four popular yogurts with probiotics.

Danone Activia Strawberry

100 calories, 4 g fat (2 g saturated, 0.1 g trans), 15 mg cholesterol, 50 mg sodium, 15 g carbs (0 g fibre, 15 g sugar), 4 g protein. 2% vitamin D, 10% calcium. $3.99 for 8-pack (100 g per serving).

Family says: Paul liked this one the best. “It tastes like cheesecake. I could even eat two at a time.” This was also Matthew’s favourite, and Mom was thrilled with the creamy texture.
Dietitian says: This yogurt is higher in fat, but the company boasts that it is a great choice if you want to promote bowel regularity. Mix it with some homemade granola for an energetic start to your day.
