COOLEST ACCOMMODATIONS

The beachfront Hotel Del Coronado has been a local landmark since 1888. Although ocean swimming may be a bit nippy in March, the turreted hotel offers lots of other amusements, including a full kids’ activity program (ages four to 12) and a new 21-room spa. Doubles from $325 US.

At the super-luxe Lodge at Torrey Pines, knock a few balls around the famous golf course, or head into La Jolla in one of the hotel’s two Mercedes. For kids, there are Nintendo games and pint-sized robes in the guest rooms, and Etch-a-Sketches in the restaurants. Doubles from $425 US.

Hipsters head to the Hotel Solamar San Diego, a Kimpton boutique hotel in the heart of the Gaslamp Quarter with flat-screen TVs, an ‘honour bar’ with art supplies and a funky rooftop bar. Doubles from $229 US.
