Hemp is the world’s premier renewable resource, thriving without herbicides and reinvigorating the soil as it grows. It is also highly nutritious and delicious. The whole seed contains about 25 percent protein, 30 percent carbs, and 15 percent insoluble fibre, and essential fatty acids omega 3 and 6, along with a host of vitamins and minerals such as phosphorus, calcium, iron and vitamins B, C and E. The subtle and nutty flavour of hemp seeds (use the shelled ones) is a flavourful complement to salads and stir-fries, and the oil is great for cooking. Look for hemp in products like pasta, cookies, desserts and even milk for a boost of goodness. Here are some of our favourite finds:
