Best Bottle: BornFree Bottle

Tested by Hassel Aviles, mom of three-month-old Verona, Guelph, Ont.

Price: $20 for pack of two 5-oz bottles

Size: Available in 5-oz and 9-oz

Features: BPA free, dishwasher safe and includes a redesigned valve that prevents leaking and creates a steady flow, making it easier to transition breastfed babies. Also features a venting system that reduces vacuum pressure and helps eliminate colic symptoms, such as gas, spit up and ear infections. Each bottle comes with a nipple (in one of five flow rates) and cover.

Why our tester loves it: “I use the bottles with a stage 1 nipple. There is never any nipple confusion; she always transitions great between bottle and breast. My baby prefers BornFree nipples better than others, and we can tell because she always drains the milk out of them. They are soft and gentle to suckle—I find they prevent the hard suckling needed with many conventional bottles. My husband and I both notice how the venting effectively works to eliminate spitting up, gassiness and middle ear infections (which our first daughter is prone to getting), and it prevents the nipple from collapsing. When used correctly the air valve helps prevent leaks, which is particularly handy for formula mixing. We used Bornfree bottles with our first daughter until she was 13 months old and they never showed signs of wear.”
