Ingredients
  • 1 Cup all purpose flour
  • 1/2 Cups whole wheat flour
  • 1/4 Cups sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 Cups chocolate chips
  • 1/2 vanilla bean
  • you will need the contents of this jar and
  • 1 1/4 Cups milk
  • 3 tablespoons margarine, melted
  • 12 eggs
  • Directions
  • 1.

    Combine flours, sugar, baking powder and salt. Pour into a 500 mL canning jar. Layer in chocolate chips. Place vanilla bean on top. Place lid on jar and attach a gift card with the following recipe.

  • 2.

    Open the jar and remove the vanilla bean; reserve.

  • 3.

    Combine the milk, margarine and eggs in a medium bowl. Split the vanilla bean and scrape the seeds into the milk mixture. (The remaining bean can be stored in sugar to make vanilla flavoured sugar.) Add the contents of the jar to the milk mixture and whisk together until the batter is smooth.

  • 4.

    Ladle or spoon a desired amount of batter into a lightly greased pan or griddle set over medium heat. When bubbles form on the surface, turn the pancake. Cook on second side until golden.

    Makes 8 large or 12 medium pancakes.
