Family Tested Granola Bars
One family selects the most snack-worthy granola bar
Originally published October, 2009
There are two distinct camps when it comes to granola bars: healthy (think grains and nuts) and not-so healthy (chocolate chunks and marshmallow bits). We asked Dave Lavoie and Crystal Ruzik and their kids Caley, 8, and Carley, 5, of Forest, Ont., to tell us which parent- and kid-approved granola bar would make its way into their lunch bags.

Family says: “I found the flavour to be just right for a granola bar,” said dad Dave, who liked its wholesome taste. “This is the perfect snack for the office or the car,” he said. Mom Crystal said she found the bar a little “bland.” Caley thought it was hard to chew and Carley thought it “tasted like cardboard.”
Dietitian says: “I am very impressed with this ingredient list. The first ingredient is a seven whole grain and sesame blend and the bar is full of nuts and seeds, healthy monounsaturated fat and natural sugars. The fibre is high, the sugar is kept low and it is higher in protein than other bars so that you will stay satisfied longer. This is a great snacking choice!”
