This year we’re challenging you to abandon the traditional Christmas wreath and create one that is both modern-looking and easy to make. If you choose to accept, prepare yourself for ogling and ongoing recognition as a DIY goddess.

What you’ll need:
• Gold thumbtacks
• A foam wreath form
• Ribbon

To make: Simply cover a foam wreath form in thumbtacks, attaching in rings around the form, slightly overlapping each additional row. Hang with a piece of ribbon.

You’ll need about 1,600 thumbtacks for a 12-inch wreath (check dollar stores for the best value). Work on this project while you watch your favourite Christmas movies and the time will fly by. And if your end point doesn’t match up perfectly, you can simply hide it with the ribbon.

Total cost for the project: $18
