With March Break upon us, kids across the country are anticipating a week of relaxation. But recent reports citing the soaring levels of childhood obesity show it’s never been more important to keep your child active and having fun. So what’s the best way to get your child off the couch? What can a parent do to foster an environment of active living in their home? How young can you start getting kids involved in sport or physical activity?  And should parents completely demonize the downtime their kids spend in front of the TV or playing video games?

To find answers to these questions and more we spoke with Ken Achenbach, Canadian snowboarding legend and founder of Camp of Champions, Whistler’s summer snowboard, ski and mountain bike camp. As is evident by the roster of Olympic medalists, including gold medalist Shaun White, who come through his camp every year, Ken knows is a pro at getting kids off the couch and living active.
