Here are 4 ways to be eco chic

Embrace vintage style

Find the inner beauty in items you already have or can pick up inexpensively at a local thrift store. Williams’ sources? He frequents garage sales and thrift shops and scouts deals online at Kijiji and Craigslist. Not sure if that antique dresser is non-toxic? You can buy lead test kits at your local hardware store.

Choose smart paint

Paints containing Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) can emit toxic fumes. Try VOC-free brands when decorating.

Aim to sustain

When possible, select products that are manufactured from sustainable resources, such as cork, cotton rope, wood, wicker, rattan, bamboo and recycled parts.

Go organic

Because most synthetic fabrics are treated with chemical flame retardants and other toxins, everything touching baby’s skin, such as clothing, bedding and even the mattress, should be made of organic cotton or bamboo. Buy a natural rubber or latex mattress if you can.
