Step 1 In a wide, shallow bowl, whisk equal parts water and flour until smooth. Saturate newspaper strips with mixture and smooth over a large inflated balloon. Once covered completely, repeat process for a sturdier piñata. Let dry overnight.

Step 2 Make two small holes in the top of the piñata (about an inch apart); thread twine through holes and tie together in a knot. Be sure to leave enough slack to hang your piñata.

Step 3 Cut a hole in the bottom of your piñata; use this opening to pop the balloon using a needle and pull out the deflated pieces. Then fill up the papier-mâché ball with yummy treats. Close the hole with a few leftover pieces of newspaper and your flour and water solution, and let dry.

Step 4 Paint hive with yellow acrylic paint. Apply a second coat if the newsprint is still peeking through.

Step 5 Starting from the top, wrap your hive with thick yellow yarn, gluing as you go. Finish by cutting the thread and using hot glue to secure the end.
