1. Make colour photocopies of your family photos (we used pictures of four different family members), so that you have two of each. Trace same-sized circles around the faces and cut them out. Set them aside. TIP: If you'd rather not cut up your precious photographs for these projects, colour photocopies work just as well.

2. Select six corresponding papers that you love. We used a selection from the Basic Grey Stella Ruby collection.

3. Using a ruler, cut half-an-inch-wide strips out of the papers. For larger balls, cut 16 strips that are 7-in long each. Medium balls: 12 strips that are 6 in-long. Small balls: 8 strips that are 4.5-in long.

4. Punch small holes in both ends of every strip.

5. Stack the strips for one ball on top of each other (pattern facing up). Insert a coloured brad through the holes at each end, and secure in place. You can now fan out the strips to create the ball.

6. Cut a length of floss to fit inside your ball (leave room to tie it off). Secure a family-member's photo around one end of floss using glue dots, leaving the photo to dangle in the middle of the ball. Tie the other end securely to the brad, cutting off any excess floss.

7. Tie a pre-made tassel to a short piece of floss, and secure to the brad on the bottom of the ball. Trim any excess floss.

8. Repeat for each ball.

9. Hang finished balls from a branch (we used a willow branch) and display as a mobile for baby (out of reach from curious hands) or as a unique spin on a family tree.
