The Lorax, $20, Random House Young Readers.
We were dismayed to hear that a feature film version of the 1971 Dr. Seuss classic The Lorax has been shelved, but are thrilled that the book is experiencing a bit of a renaissance, thanks to its message of conservation and sustainability. Clearly ahead of its time, the book tells the story of a greedy businessman who destroys a forest of Truffula trees to make his useless products (known as thneeds), despite the warning of the wise Lorax. The book’s message is more profound than ever, making it a great way to teach your kids about corporate responsibility and foster a respect for the environment.
