Softer than your average learning toy, Smart-E-Bear is an interactive friend that will play music, games and tell stories and will even recite and remember your child’s name! Play in different languages and download content so that the bear grows with your child. Smart-E-Bear, $100, Intellitoys.

“Out of all the talking bears out there (I’ve had a couple) this has been my favourite. I love that it is interactive and can be adjusted to suit your child’s development — brilliant. I also love that there is so much content available to download so it’s not a one-trick pony. It is also lightweight and very snuggly. My three-year-old daughter loved it and sang along with it. It would be nice if somehow the electronic devices could be removed so the plush bear could be washed (important for kids with asthma or allergies).”

Tara Zupancic, mom of Maya, 3, and Audrey, 1, Toronto
