Rinse and drain quinoa three times to remove the natural coating that can make quinoa a bit bitter.
In a medium saucepan, bring quinoa, water, salt, butter and cumin to a boil. Reduce to a simmer and cook for 15 minutes.
Remove from heat and allow to stand covered for five minutes.
Uncover, fluff with a fork and place in refrigerator, stirring every 10 or 15 minutes until cool.
Mix remaining ingredients into cold quinoa and serve.
