How to Convert Your Nursery into a Big-Kid Bedroom

SHELF LIFE
To make the most of the shelf space in a little kid’s room, follow these simple safety and design rules.

1. Bolt bookcases – as well as dressers – to the wall with L-brackets, so they can’t fall onto your child. (Never underestimate the allure of furniture when a jungle gym isn’t handy.)

2. Place display shelves high and out of reach of little hands. This prevents your objets-d’art from taking a tumble and saves your child from a nasty bump to the head.

3. Resist the urge to clutter shelves. Placing one or two eye-catching pieces on display often makes a greater statement.
