A Sweet Snack for Little Learners: Krispy Apple Treats

Photography by Mandy Heaston, Gourmet Mom On-the-Go

For many kids across Canada, today marks the end of the first week of school. Whew! We think all that hard work calls for a little celebration. And what better way to celebrate than with a yummy school-inspired snack like these cute Rice Krispy Apple Treats?

We stumbled across this idea over at Gourmet Mom On-the-Go, the website of foodie mama Mandy Heaston. We love that they’re easy to put together, so even the most time-crunched family can still enjoy them. It’s a great recipe for junior chefs to take on, too!

What you’ll need:
• Rice Krispies
• Large marshmallows
• Butter
• Jell-O powder (cherry/strawberry/raspberry)
• Small Tootsie Rolls
• Royal icing
• Green food colouring
• Cooking spray
• Waxed paper
• Red food colouring (optional)

You’ll find the complete recipe and directions for these Krispy Apple Treats over at Gourmet Mom On-the-Go. And if you’re looking for more great after-school snacks, check out these yummy homemade apple chips.
