During those hot, hazy summer days, there’s really nothing better than kicking your feet up and enjoying a cold drink. Around these parts, our chilly drink of choice is homemade iced tea—it’s refreshing, without being chock-full of sugar. It’s also a great option for kids, especially if you want to offer something a little more exciting than water, but are steering clear of too much juice and sugary soda.
Canadian tea company DAVIDsTEA recently launched a three-flavour line of teas just for kids ($6.50 for 50 grams), perfect for serving iced on hot days. There’s Goji Pop and Luscious Watermelon herbal tea, as well as a rooibos blend called Swampwater. The teas are caffeine-free, and DAVIDsTEA has designed kid-friendly packaging so kids can really feel like it’s a tea that’s just for them (we’re partial to the smiling green Swamp Monster on Swampwater).
What really got our attention, though, was DAVIDsTEA’s new leakproof travel mug for kids. The mug features a super-cute design that includes sea creatures and fluffy clouds. It’s made of durable BPA-free plastic, double-walled to keep drinks nice and cold. We also like the grippy rubber disc on the bottom to keep it sturdy on flat surfaces. But the real key is in the twist-and-lock lid. When they say this mug is leakproof, they’re not kidding around. We put the mug to the test—going so far as to flip it upside down on a desk while it was filled to the brim—and didn’t have to clean up a single drop. It’s a great option for toting a cold drink along in the car, at the park or on a summer day trip. Toss it in a backpack or purse and you’re good to go. We may just need to get an extra one for ourselves, too.
Leakproof mug for kids, $14.50, available at davidstea.com and retail locations across Canada.
