A Sweet Edible Craft Idea: Japanese Marshmallow Candy

We found these adorable DIY marshmallow-and-fondant confections over at The Decorated Cookie.

Food blogger and sprinkles superstar Meaghan Mountford was inspired by old-fashioned Japanese-style hard candies known as Hana Koyomi. We’re thinking this would be a great edible craft for older kids, and a fun loot bag filler, too. Super kawaii!

What you’ll need:
• Fine-tipped edible ink markers (like FooDoodlers)
• Mini marshmallows
• Fondant
• Food colouring (use paste colours)

You can find paste food colouring and ready-made fondant at craft supply stores (like Michaels) or bulk food shops in the candy-making and baking section.

If you’re feeling keen, you can also make your own fondant using this marshmallow fondant recipe. Wrap leftover fondant by tightly in plastic wrap, tuck it into a resealable plastic bag, and then pop in an air-tight container where it will keep indefinitely.

Check out Meaghan’s post for details and inspiration. For another fun edible craft, try making a few of these gumdrop sculptures.
