101 in 1001: Binary Fun for the Whole Family
We all have a list of things that we’ve always wanted to try/learn/do, etc. From the very basic “be more organized” to the more challenging “go skydiving,” each of us has a list that reveals our heart’s deepest aspirations and desires. And that’s how the 101 in 1001 Project was born.
We have to admit that we’re pretty intrigued by this concept. Basically, you make a list of 101 things that you want to accomplish in 1001 days (roughly 2.75 years). It can be as simple as “work out three times a week,” or as complex as “fall in love.” You can break your goals down into categories like “family,” “work” and “just for me.” The only rule is that your tasks must be specific, so that your result can be clearly measured (i.e. completed or not).
The great thing about putting your goals on paper (or online, as seems to be the trend), is that it’s really like making a contract with yourself. When you actually write them down, your goals suddenly seem much more concrete, more manageable and more attainable.
While we’re not sure that we’ll be able to get through all the things on our lists, we’re just excited to give it a try and see how far we can get. And we think it’s a great project for the whole family, too. Although 101 in 1001 might be a bit overwhelming for your little ones, having them write down a smaller list of things they would like to accomplish is a great way to teach them about setting goals for themselves and managing tasks – two valuable life skills.
