Housed inside the West Edmonton Mall, the Fantasyland Hotel features 120 themed rooms (some of which are family-friendly). For our purposes, opt for the Luxury Polynesian Room (photo), which features a waterfall that fills a whirlpool surrounded by lava rock. It’s Midnight at the Oasis at Michael’s Inn. This particular theme room boasts satin leopard print sheets and a Jacuzzi tub surrounded by mirrors. The Garden of Paradise Room includes a Jacuzzi “grotto” that must be seen to be believed. Packages from $58 per person, michaelsinn.com.

Though a Best Western may not be your first choice for romance, the Fireside Inn offers some spectacular suites, each with a gas fireplace. If you’re keen on heading south of the border, check out the Sybaris Pool Suites situated in Illinois, Wisconsin and Indiana. As the name implies, each room has either a whirlpool or private pool.
