Marija Salajko of Mississauga, Ont.-based Coral Coast Custom Swimwear creates custom bathing suits for all body types and style requests (after a quick, half-hour consultation and fitting, you’ll have a one-of-a-kind, figure-flattering suit in about one week). We asked for her expert opinion on how to buy the perfect suit.
What is the biggest issue most women have with buying a bathing suit?
Finding the right fit — many women are different sizes on top and bottom.
What do you think is the most flattering shape?
Everyone is an individual, but we usually start with a high cut bottom and fit the suit around that. Tops vary greatly due to bust size.
What do you recommend for women wanting to cover a large tummy?
One-piece bathing suits or tankinis. And print fabrics are always more forgiving.
What if you have a large bust?
Underwire tops offer the most support and this is important to minimize busts and proportion the body.
Large bottoms?
Sometimes less fabric is better, too much fabric can make you look wider.
Do you have a favourite bathing suit?
When a client is happy with their bathing suit, when it fits properly, is complimentary in style and fabrics, it’s always a great creation.
