Just as they strived to maintain the home’s edgy appeal, they also tried to introduce eco-friendly features. Carpets are made of natural fibres such as sisal, jute or wool. Paints are low-VOC. Conacher, who translated his passion for the environment into a business offering carbon offsets to businesses and individuals (he’s CEO of Cleanairpass Inc., cleanairpass.com), concentrated mainly on the home’s efficiency, replacing the old windows and furnace. And long before Oprah touted them to the masses, he installed energy-saving light bulbs with timers.

On the Grid
The graphic shelving unit stores toys and books, and complements the modern aesthetic.
