Samantha Bee, The Daily Show’s female (and Canadian!) correspondent, spoke with Canadian Family about her 17-month-old bundle of joy, Piper.

Q: How do you juggle work and motherhood?

“I’ve been really blessed because the people at [The Daily Show] could not have been more warm and understanding of the demands of parenthood. They have been incredible since the time I told them I was pregnant. I bring the baby to work all the time and people respond well to her.”

Traveling with a baby is never easy. Do you have any tips for new moms?

“We bring 15 different kinds of snacks and just keep sticking them in her mouth. If you can afford to get the extra seat on the plane, get it, it makes a huge difference,” she says, especially helpful during frequent jaunts to Canada.

Where do you go to escape?

Bee and her husband, fellow The Daily Show correspondent Jason Jones, try to spend as much time as possible at their cottage. “We swim with Piper and she picks flowers in the garden. She literally chases butterflies, it is so ridiculous,” says the effervescent mom.

SAMANTHA BEE’S KID BOOK PICKS

Bee shares her top-five must-have reads for wee ones

1.Pezzettino and Frederick by Leo Lionni (Random House) is graphically beautiful and I love the themes.

2.The Giving Tree, written and illustrated by Shel Silverstein (HarperCollins) is impossible to get through without crying.

3.Chowder, written and illustrated by Peter Brown (HarperCollins) is about a bulldog who thinks he is human. My 17-month-old daughter is at the age where she loves anything dog themed.

4.Dr. Seuss books (Random House) are just great!

5. Alligator Pie, written by Dennis Lee and illustrated by Frank Newfeld (Key Porter) is not available in the States. We had to order this Canadian classic direct from the source.
