Sure, ties are nice, but nothing beats spending time with dear old dad on Father's Day. Plus, quality time is always the right size and colour.

1. Movie marathon

Select some of the funniest movies from your home library or rent one of dad’s favourites from when he was younger (Star Wars anyone?) then kick back for an afternoon with drinks, snacks and a big bowl of popcorn.

2. Snap happy

Grab your camera and get busy. Take loads of silly pictures of your day together. Take your film or disk to a one-hour photo store to get developed. Make an album or start a scrapbook that you can add pictures to every year to commemorate Father’s Day.

3. Games day

When is the last time your family sat down to play a board game or cards? Been a while? You might be surprised how fun Monopoly, Cranium or Sorry! can be. Or ask dad to pick his favourite game and set up your kitchen table with snacks for an afternoon of friendly competition. And take a look at some of our
other great board game ideas.

4. All sorts of sports

Check the basement or garage for any long-forgotten sports equipment. Who knew you had a bocce or croquet kit or three Frisbees? Give them a try. You can always fall back on tossing a baseball around or you can invite extended family and neighbours over for a soccer tournament and pizza.

5. Feast fit for a king

Does dad fancy himself a BBQ master? Dig out some hamburgers or hot dogs for dad to grill while you set up the condiments. Get creative. Does dad love onions, hummus, hot sauce and guacamole? Load it on. If you’re old enough to get behind the grill yourself ask dad to show you his sure-fire best-burger technique. Then have dad sit down for lunch or dinner in a chair specially decorated for the occasion.
