Materials

  • Two colours of canvas
  • Thread (in as many colours as you choose)
  • Needle
  • Scissors
  • Safety pins

Instructions

  • Cut out canvas circles. The lighter shade of canvas circles should be about 2 inches in diameter and the darker about 3 inches.
  • Use your needle and thread to stitch symbols onto the smaller circle for the good behaviour, improvements and general accomplishments that you wish to celebrate with your child. Tip: Some ideas we had include a broom for helping clean up, a goldfish for taking good care of their first pet and a bed for making their bed all week (without being told!).
  • With your needle and thread attach a safety pin (making sure the open side is facing out) to the middle of the larger circle of canvas.
  • Next, place the smaller circle in the middle of the larger one. Use a complimentary colour of thread and stitch along the perimeter of the smaller circle to attach.
  • Attach a few to their favourite jacket to show off to grandma, or add them to a sash (just like Scouts and Brownies!), hang and display in their room.
