Family profile Paule Bergeron, sales assistant, Mia, 16, and Audrey, 14.
What Paule loves about Québec City It’s not a large city – we’ve got 600,000 people altogether, a very “human” scale. The sense of community makes it friendly and safe. Plus, it’s really historical. There is so much you can learn just by walking around here – the streets, the architecture… It’s like they’re talking to you.
What Mia and Audrey love Skiing at Mont-Sainte-Anne resort (mont-sainte-anne.com), just 30 minutes from downtown Québec. In the summer you can go camping and mountain biking there, too. And they love swimming and splashing around in the many lakes in the northwest Portneuf and Jacques-Cartier areas.
Favourite stores and restos The girls love to shop for clothes and accessories at Simon’s (2450 Blvd Laurier), a store established here. Portofino Bistro Italiano (54 Rue Couillard) serves up wood-oven pizzas, fresh pastas and the most delicious cutlets. For a date, I like Chez Maurice (575 Grande-Allée), followed by a walk on the Terrasse Dufferin, a boardwalk, by the Château Frontenac (1 Rue des Carrières).
A perfect family day in Québec City We would wake up on a beautiful Saturday morning, pack a picnic and go to the Plains of Abraham in Old Québec (ccbn-nbc.gc.ca). In summer, you can rollerblade along the trails, and there’s a kiosk there with music and lookouts with beautiful views. In winter, you can cross-country ski.
