Three More Reasons Why You’ll Love Disneyland

For those who are looking for yet another reason to get your mouse on this summer—Mickey Mouse, that is—Disneyland in Anaheim, California (just about a three hour flight for our west coast friends) has added two new attractions and a parade this summer. From under the sea to a galaxy far, far away, we got a chance to try ‘em out first hand. Check out our reviews below and find out if it’s right for your family.

1. The Little Mermaid, Ariel’s Undersea Adventure in the Disney California Adventure Park

What to expect: Like It’s a Small World and Pirates of the Caribbean, it features audio animatronic characters (a.k.a robots) that sing, dance and guide riders—traveling aboard a clam shell—through Ariel’s tale. From Prince Eric to Ursula and Scully to Sebastian, all of your favourite characters make an appearance and share in all of the best sing-a-long songs from the film, including “Under the Sea” and “Kiss the Girl.”

Who will love it: Ariel’s fanbase is far-reaching. From moms who first got to know Ariel back in 1989 (yes, it really has been THAT long) to new fans experiencing her story for the first time, everyone loves Disney’s red-headed vixen (even Dad). A quick warning: prepare younger riders for Ursula’s lair—it’s dark, moody and she’s just as big and frightening in person.

Insider tip: Look out for Hidden Mickeys on this ride. We spotted two!

2. Star Tours: The Adventure Continues in Disneyland’s Tomorrowland

What to expect: C-3PO acts as tour guide for riders on board this 3D quest to one of the famous destinations in the Star Wars galaxy. Will it be Hoth or Naboo? You’ll have to ride to find out because this flight simulator attraction offers more than 50 different story combinations, so the fun doesn’t end after the first visit.

Who will love it: Just about anyone. Movie nostalgics, 3D fanatics, Jedis in training, the list goes on.

Insider tip: Make a funny face once you get seated in your Starspeeder. One passenger per expedition is targeted as a rebel spy and their photo is shown on the big screen at the beginning of the ride.

3. Mickey’s Soundsational Parade at Disneyland’s Main Street, USA

What to expect: The newest Disneyland parade follows the rhythm of musical hits from the past. Nine elaborate themed floats and nearly 100 fantastically costumed performers jaunt down Main Street to much-loved Disney melodies.

Who will love it: Everyone! The best part of this parade is the variety of songs and characters. While Rapunzel will capture the attention of your youngest princess, Mary Poppins and her team of chimney sweepers will charm Mom and Dad (and even Grandma and Grampa).

Insider tip: If you’re hoping to catch Mickey at this parade, don’t count on him capping off the show. Everyone’s favourite mouse takes the lead at this parade, so be sure to get a spot early on.
