Start a New Christmas Tradition with This Sweet DIY Advent Calendar Idea

Whether we’re ready for it or not, December is just around the corner (seriously—where is the time going?!). And that means it’s almost time to crack open the advent calendar! We’ve found some really unique twists on the classic chocolate calendar over the years, like these eight great DIY advent calendar ideas. But this year, we’re ready to start another advent tradition, thanks to this sweet idea from Dana Willard, the crafty mama behind the blog Made.

For this advent calendar, all you need is some pretty wrapping paper and 24 of your family’s favourite holiday books. You can number them, or just let your child select one at random each day that you can read together before bedtime. We absolutely adore this idea, as it combines the fun of an advent calendar (and the excitement of unwrapping a new surprise each day!) with a great new family tradition that encourages a love of reading. What could be better?

You’ll find Dana’s book-finding tips and her list of great Christmas books over at Made. And if you’re looking for some gift ideas for the book lovers on your Christmas list, check out our round-up of 17 books to give this holiday season.
