Clothing line bon bébé are taking heat after a onesie from their Wild Child collection has sparked debate amongst a community in Southaven, Mississippi. The Huffington Post describes how the onesie in question—clearly inspired by the infamous bikini t-shirts for women—has left many parents feeling uncomfortable about the sexual undertone.
Those who were interviewed by a local news station said the onesie was “inappropriate” and “disgusting”, with one mother commenting, “I just think that is a little ridiculous that you would put that on your child.”
The bikini-onesie has since been taken off bon bébé’s website, however other onesies from the Wild Child collection are still visible—including one that reads “Lock Up Your Daughters”.
Apart from the sexual innuendo of the onesie (and other “funny” outfits for children), some parents feel that these clothing items make the child wearing them the butt of the joke, so to speak. They don’t know and understand what they are wearing and this doesn’t sit will with some parents.
On the other hand, other parents don’t see the big deal or take offense, supporting the “if you don’t like it, don’t buy it” mentality.
