Mad Men is back on the airwaves (season 5 premiered on Sunday night), and that means the return of the queen of ice herself, the former Mrs. Betty Draper, played by actress January Jones.

Jones is a new mom, and fighting exhaustion on the Mad Men set during long days of filming, with her son Xander (who arrived in September) waiting in the wings for feedings and cuddles, has meant that Jones has had to do whatever it takes to keep her energy up. In addition to a good diet and vitamins, Jones told People.com that the secret to keeping her energy levels high is placenta encapsulation.

Yes. Placenta. Encapsulation.

As People.com reports:

“Your placenta gets dehydrated and made into vitamins,” [Jones] explains. “It’s something I was very hesitant about, but we’re the only mammals who don’t ingest our own placentas.” Jones has taken the capsules every day since right after she had her son, and also anytime she feels tired or down. Jones insists, “It’s not witch-crafty or anything! I suggest it to all moms!”
