Directions:

INSTRUCTIONAL PHOTOS BELOW

Legs and Arms: follow package instructions to dye bodysuit and tights

Hat:

  • Trace out a pattern of the infant toque on to a newspaper, leaving a 2.5 cm border around. Cut out. Check that your pattern fits your child’s head.
  • Trace finished template on to yellow fur, felt or fleece. Cut out.
  • Glue or stitch sides together to create a fur hat. Leave one seam on top half of hat open.
  • Take plastic glove and stuff fingers with cotton balls. Cut off glove just below ends of fingers.  Insert cut edge into open seam on the top of the hat. Stitch to secure glove and seam.
  • Place infant toque inside fur hat and check sizing. Fold edges under and glue/stitch to secure.
  • Using a glue fun, layer hat with feathers, framing the face first and working towards the crown.

Chick tummy:

  • Trace the front portion of your infant carrier on to a newspaper to create a paper pattern.  Leave an extra 2.5 cm all around. Cut out.
  • Trace finished template on to yellow fur, felt or fleece. Cut out.
  • Attach fabric to the carrier folding 2.5 cm edge under and securing with small hand stitches.  (Note: for a fat tummy, insert a handful of cotton balls or plastic bags between the fabric and the carrier.)
  • Glue feathers to the fabric starting at the bottom of the carrier and move upward. (Note: make sure no sharp quills point towards the face, arm or leg areas)

Chick Feet:

  • Enlarge pattern as needed and cut out.
  • Trace the pattern four times onto orange craft foam and cut out.
  • Following the lines, fold pattern #1 and glue pattern #2 on to the bottom. You will now have a foam shoe.
  • Create an ankle strap by cutting a 1 cm wide strip of orange craft foam, sized to fit your baby’s foot. Glue strap to sides of shoe.
  • To finish, glue a trim to outline the shoe and hide seams. Glue a small strip of yellow fur or feathers to top of each foot.
