Ava Jackman: Her Daddy’s Biggest Critic

My oldest daughter is my toughest critic, hands down. She reminds me to never dance or sing in public and questions my outfit choices before family functions. It’s nice to know, though, that I’m not alone.

It seems that Hugh Jackman’s daughter Ava, 6, is his toughest critic as well.

Jackman—who is currently starring in Hugh Jackman: Back on Broadway— tells Anderson Cooper, “About a week ago [my kids] came on a Sunday matinee. I said, ‘Guys, look, you can be honest with me. Do you like the show?’ My son Oscar says, ‘I really like it.’ I was touched. My daughter said, ‘I find it a little boring.’”

He goes on to say that Ava is basically mortified by her father. “My daughter, oh, my God. I sing a song for my wife in the show and sometimes I go out to the crowd. My daughter literally hides under the seat in front. She dies.”

Yes. It’s a good thing I don’t have a Broadway show, because my daughter would be the one hiding under the seat too.

I hope Hugh Jackman has a thicker skin than I do.
