Check Out Scholastic’s List of the 100 Greatest Books for Kids

Remember way back in those early school days when you’d gather around with classmates to listen to a reading of Shel Silverstein’s The Giving Tree, or snuggle up under the covers at home while you listened to Margaret Wise Brown’s Goodnight Moon before drifting off to sleep? There are some books that just stick with you through the years, like E.B. White’s Charlotte’s Web and Roald Dahl’s Matilda. They are stories and characters that find a way into your heart, that you carry with you right through to adulthood and can’t wait to share with your own children some day.
These are just some of the books that you’ll find on Scholastic Parent & Child magazine’s recently released list of the 100 Greatest Books for Kids. The top 10 includes popular titles like Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak and Dr. Seuss’ Green Eggs and Ham. Beloved Canadian novel Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery sits at number 11 on the list.
If we could add a few more of our personal favourites to this list, we’d have to make room for a little Robert Munsch (The Paper Bag Princess or Love You Forever), plus some Berenstain Bears, and of course the Little Critter collection by Mercer Mayer.
