Kung Hei Fat Choi! The Year of the Dragon has officially arrived and families across Canada have begun an exciting 15-day celebration of the Lunar New Year. Get in on the fun and celebrate with your little ones by making themed crafts like these paper lanterns and ribbon dragons. Then settle down for a festive feast including popular dishes like dumplings, long noodles (to represent long life) and some delicious (and lucky!) Nian Gao, or Chinese New Year Cake. We spotted this recipe for Nian Gao over on Disney’s Family Fun website, and think it’s the perfect addition to your New Year celebration.

What you’ll need:
• Water
• Dark brown sugar
• Vegetable oil
• Sweet rice flour
• Red dates

You’ll find the full recipe and cooking instructions over at the Family Fun website. Looking for more ways to celebrate? You can find more information about New Year events in Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal here.
