Happy Robbie Burns Day! It’s the perfect day to don a kilt, dust off your favourite bagpipe CD and celebrate Scotland’s most beloved poet (who would be 253 years old today). And most importantly, share a delicious Scottish-inspired feast with your family.
While the traditional Robbie Burns supper includes reciting poetry over a haggis, we of the timid stomach variety will be doing an Address to a Meatloaf this year instead. Care to join us? Here are a few great recipes to help you plan the perfect Robbie Burns supper for your family.
No haggis? No problem!
• Turkey Mushroom Meatloaf with Red Pepper Drizzle
• Turkey Pesto Meatloaf
• Classic Quick Meatloaf
For a yummy side dish, try traditional Neeps and Tatties. We found a great recipe over at Chow.com. And you can’t go wrong with some yummy shortbread for dessert. Try our Short-Order Shortbread or Lemon and Lavender Shortbread, or take things to a whole new level with this Bacon, Chive and Maple Syrup Shortbread. You can also whip up some Mary’s Tablet, which is a delicious Scottish take on traditional fudge.
And of course, don’t forget to spare a moment for Burns’ Selkirk Grace. Little Georgia will show you how it’s done in the video below.
