When J.Crew made it’s way into Canada earlier this year (finally!) we were thrilled. Its stock and trade is wearable preppy-chic pieces and fantastic wedding-appropriate dresses. And of course, it’s got a great line of kids stuff which isn’t exactly reasonable, but the quality is good and worth an occasional splurge if you have the budget. Up until recently, however, the smallest sizes available were 2T, but it looks like they’ve finally ventured into infant wear with Crewcuts Baby, and we’re absolutely smitten.
In addition to some insanely expensive, completely impractical but gorgeous cashmere baby sweaters ($144 each, complete with matching cashmere baby blankets that ring in at $218 each—GULP), they have a series of more reasonable and beautiful organic cotton nautical-striped onesies ($22 each) with itty bitty matching organic cotton pants ($30 each) and ridiculously cute matching booties ($16 each).
And then there’s the piece de resistance. Okay, so it’s not a bargain (it’s $102), but the hand-knitted-by-women-in-Bolivia Oeuf jumper has us absolutely swooning.
The only Canadian location is currently in the Yorkdale Centre in Toronto, but J.Crew happily offers duty-free shipping to anywhere in Canada for a flat rate of $10 US.
You have got to be kidding – who in their right mind would buy these expensive items for a child who who would wear them for 2 – 3 months at the most? Please keep in mind that some of us in Canada are struggling – and that to put clothing like this on your website encourages overspending/rampant consumerism. Even if I had the “budget” to spend I would think spending money on items such as this a waste of money – better to put the $102.00 (for a jumper) into an RESP for your child or donate it to a worthy charity.
