Les Misérables producer Cameron Mackintosh is planning an all-Canadian cast for the hit musical’s return to Toronto in 2012. He has revamped the production for the show’s 25th anniversary and given it new staging, new set design and new life. And now he wants Justin Bieber to play the role of Marius.
Mackintosh told the Toronto Star: “You’re going to have a completely new, all-Canadian production opening at the Royal Alex in July, 2012. I would love to hear Justin Bieber sing “Empty Chairs at Empty Tables.” Please spread the word that he’d be more than welcome in the show.”
This news is almost unsurprising as Mackintosh has already cast Nick Jonas of The Jonas Brothers to play the same role in the London production. It seems that he not only wants to refresh Les Miserables, but he might also be hoping to get a younger audience out to see the musical, which is based on the Victor Hugo novel of the same name.
Do you think Justin Bieber has the chops to handle the theatre stage?
