On those breezy summer days, what could be better than gathering the kids, heading to the park and flying a kite? (Don’t have one? They’re easy to make! Check out our DIY kite tutorial.) It’s one of summer’s simple joys and is a great way to keep little ones—and parents—entertained for hours. You can make an afternoon of it by packing a picnic lunch—complete with these adorable kite-shaped cookies.

We stumbled upon these oh-so-sweet treats created by Callye Alvarado over on her site, The Sweet Adventures of Sugarbelle. It’s amazing what you can do with a plain old sugar cookie; these are almost too cute to eat!

What you’ll need:
• Sugar cookies (check out Callye’s sugar cookie recipe to get started)
• Diamond-shaped cookie cutter
• Flood and piping icing (multiple colours)
• Sand sugar (optional)
• Coloured ribbon
• Twine

You’ll find the full instructions for these Kite Cookies over on Callye’s site. We think they’d make a great addition to a summer birthday party.
