We just can’t get enough of the summer entertaining season. From afternoon cookouts to a few cocktails under the stars, it’s the perfect time of year to gather with friends and family and enjoy the outdoors. Now you can light up your summer evenings with these beautiful DIY star lanterns made from transformed mason jars. With only a few affordable supplies you can add some lovely decoration to your barbecues, parties and backyard campouts.

Shared by Liz Stanley of Momtastic, the star lanterns are easy to make and can be customized using different stickers. Kids will love to pick out their favourite stickers and see the different shapes they make when the lanterns are finished. They’re also super safe for smaller kids, since battery-operated candles are used in place of an open flame.

What you’ll need:
• Spray paint
• Mason jars
• Star stickers
• Newspaper
• Battery-operated votives (2-3 per jar)

Instructions for this craft can be found over at the Momtastic website. Make several lanterns with your kids and place them decoratively around your backyard; they’ll add an effervescent, soft glow to any soiree—and they’re sure to wow your guests!
