We can’t help but notice that the world around us has suddenly gotten a lot more colourful—bright green buds on trees, lush green grass and even a few brightly coloured flowers here and there. As the weather gets warmer, it’s a great time to head outdoors and take advantage of all the sights and sounds of late spring, particularly if your kids have been cooped up in the house for what feels like an eternity.
Enter Valerie, the mom behind Frugal Family Fun, who shares her brilliant idea for a simple outdoor activity that will keep little ones entertained, but won’t break the bank. All you need is a few paint chips (head to your local Canadian Tire or Home Depot paint section to pick them up for free), a hole punch and a metal key ring. Simply punch a hole in one end of each colour block, attach all the chips together with the metal ring and then send kids on their way to match green chips with green leaves and blue chips with blue signs (as demonstrated by Valerie’s adorable daughter, Clara).
You’ll find more about the Outdoor Colour Match activity on Valerie’s site. We think it’s the perfect activity to bring along on your next family nature expedition.
