Today, in her last post, guest blogger Michelle Branco of mom and toddler luxury website doudoubebe.com provides us with her choices for can’t-miss babywearing merchandise.
Babywearing: Best Bets
Expectant/New Parent: Start with a Moby Wrap – it’s really the ideal newborn carrier and well worth the $60 investment. Once you’ve figured out how much you use your carrier and when, pick another style.
In-and-Out of the Car/Busy Travelers: Hands down, a fitted pouch. It’s easy, it’s portable and you can take it anywhere without lots of fussing with straps in a slushy parking lot or busy security line.
City Central: You need something with good support and lots of flexibility – plus a long lifespan & capacity to deal with indoor/outdoor situations. If you love the stretchy wrap you bought when your baby was wee, then consider upgrading to a woven wrap. Wrapping too fussy? My fave SSC is the Calyx or a mei tai if you’re buckle-averse.
Summer Babies: You can find most carriers in a UV protective fabric (or buy a cover) – just be sure to get a good feel of the fabric as some types can be scratchy. The key is a lightweight breathable fabric – I really like a silk ring sling as I can use the open tail as a sun shield and the fabric is super comfortable even in humidity. You can also find most styles available in pool versions – my favorite is a mesh ring sling (so everyone gets to switch off). Many families also use water slings to safely bring baby into the shower with them.
Toting Toddlers: While hip carriers like Ellaroo’s Mei Hip or the Scootababy are limited to one carrying position, they do that position very well. If you have a toddler or preschooler who likes to be carried (or needs to be!), it’s worth considering a carrier like this. What you spend here will be saved in your physio bills later, trust me.
