Product: Safety 1st and Dorel Drop-Side Cribs
Description: 3-in-1 Carlisle drop-side crib (dark cherry), model number 10H020
Tara drop-side crib (white), model number DAKM5132C
(The name of the crib, its model number and “Dorel Distribution Canada” are on the assembly instruction sheet attached to the mattress support board and at the bottom of the headboard. The railing features the name “Dorel” or “Safety 1st”.)
Hazard: Drop-side may break or deform. As well, if drop-side is installed upside down, parts may break off. Any of the preceding may cause the drop-side to detach, leaving a space between the drop-side and the mattress. Children may fall into the space and suffocate, and if the drop-side detaches completely the child could fall from the crib.
Time Period/Locations Sold: December 2006-January 2010 at Sears Canada and other retailers
Reports of Injuries to Health Canada and/or manufacturer: Health Canada received two reports of incidents but no injuries. Three reports of the drop-side becoming detached and four reports of slats on the crib breaking were received in Canada by Dorel Distribution Canada. No injuries were reported.
Corrective Action: Examine the drop-side carefully to be sure that it has been installed right side up and that no damage exists. If there is any doubt concerning the preceding, cease using the crib and find a safe, appropriate sleeping alternative for your child. DO NOT return the crib. A free repair kit that allows you to fix the drop-side will be provided to owners in the coming weeks.
