Health Canada has issued a product recall for the Cara Mia “Diane” drop-side crib. The recall is due to the possibility of the wooden slats on the drop side detaching, leaving a gap that may trap infants or cause them to fall out.
Cara Mia Furniture noted 18 incidents of the wooden slats detaching on cribs sold in the United States, though none so far in Canada. No reports of incidents or injuries related to this product have been received by Health Canada.
The dates of manufacture for the cribs are between September 2002 and June 2oo4. The manufacture date can be found on a label on the on the inside of the headboard or footboard.
Consumers are advised to immediately inspect the drop-side of the crib for any loose or detached slats. If any reason for concern arises, stop using the crib and find a safe and appropriate sleeping environment for your child. Do not return the crib, but contact Cara Mia Furniture for a free replacement drop-side. The replacements will be available beginning in March 2010.
